Off to the Beach

8"x8" oil on flat panel unframed  10/11/2020

This painting is a quick sketch I did from a photo reference to get myself back into painting.  I was also trying to practice placing paint on a canvas in a way to represent the correct tones and colors to make the painting show depth.  I mixed the colors and then used a palette knife to apply the paint.  I used a large brush to place the colors where my photo reference indicated they should go.  You can see the brush strokes and the quality of the paint.  Later I put in a few details and used the palette knife again to get the texture of the grasses.  It was all done in a short time.  I felt like I was working in a frenzy to get it done so that I could share my result with my friends on a Zoom call.!  Oh the things CoVid makes you do!!!  Honestly, I like the way it turned out and am not about to take the texture away.  I like to add a little magenta to everything I paint...not sure why.  You might notice it in the shadows!
